About cultural education of students of marine educational institutions
Recently, in accordance with the new rules of admission to higher maritime schools, mainly production workers with two years of work experience have been accepted out of competition. Young factory workers, sailors, and stokers who have come to study at universities show themselves to be on the good side: they take their studies seriously, are disciplined, and actively participate in public life. The appointment of production workers as group foremen, the election of Komsomol and trade union organizers, members of the bureau of faculty and trade union organizations has a positive effect on all educational work in general. Young production workers have become a reliable support for the management staff.
Artistic self-activity helps in solving the problem of cultural education of students. All schools have amateur art clubs, guided tours, and collective screenings of new films and productions. Students of the Odessa Institute of Marine Engineers show a lot of good invention and ingenuity. At one time, they organized an institute festival. About 3 thousand people took part in it. The pop orchestra of the Institute successfully performed at the Odessa Region Festival and the Republican Festival of Youth and Students in Kiev. It is possible to organize amateur art activities well in every school. All you need is a desire.
The leaders and teachers of the VVIMU are attentive to the development of amateur artistic activity of cadets. The school has a good drama team led by People's Artist of the RSFSR T. Kolesnikov. The performances of this collective are broadcast on television and enjoy great success among the workers of Primorye.
Mass sports events occupy a prominent place in cultural and educational work. Recently, schools have begun to pay much more attention to the development of water sports. The sports teams of the VEG schools more often win prizes in various sports at city and pool competitions. Following the example of the students of the Odessa Institute of Marine Engineers, the cadets of the Leningrad and Batumi Maritime Schools built stadiums on their own. This experience should be disseminated in all educational institutions. Sports work in schools has not been organized enough yet, and for its widespread deployment it is necessary to involve the entire management and teaching staff of educational institutions.
Ongoing measures to strengthen the school's connection with life and further develop the public education system require managers, teachers, party, Komsomol and trade union organizations of maritime educational institutions to further improve the political and educational work among cadets. The task of communist education of young specialists is a matter of great national importance. All the attention of the public of schools should be focused on its implementation.
