Sweden issues 28 new licences ahead of re-regulation
Swedish regulator Lotteriinspektionen has issued 28 more licences ahead of the country's iGaming market next month, the latest recipients being Cherry, Gaming Innovations Group (GiG), 888, Paf and Betfair.
Cherry has been awarded no fewer than eight licences for online betting and wagering in the new market, which will officially launch on 1 June 2021.
The licences will cover Casinostugan, Cherry Casino Sweden, ComeOn, Hajper, Mobilautomaten, Snabbare and two partner brands. Cherry has also obtained a land-based commercial casino gaming licence for its Cherry Spelglädje AB division.
"Although the licence applications required a significant amount of work, we are convinced that the Swedish legislation provides the best conditions for gaming operators, our customers and for us as a company and therefore for our shareholders," said Gunnar Lind, president. and CEO of Cherry, said.
GiG has been granted two licences for the re-regulated market; one will cover Rizk, Guts, Highroller, Thrills, Kaboo and Betspin's own brands and the other will cover white label customers.
GiG chief executive Robin Reid said: "GiG supports a safe and secure gaming environment and will and will continue to invest in technology and people to be at the forefront of responsible gaming."
In addition, 888 Sweden, Betfair International and Paf Consulting have been granted online betting and betting licences in Sweden.
AG Communications, Betspawn AB, Blue Star Planet, BS Nordic, Cerberus Technology, MT Secure Trade, Multibrand Gaming, United Lottery Solutions and Zecure Gaming have also received online gaming and betting licences. Co-Gaming Sweden, Leisure Spin, Viral Interactive and XC Gaming Sweden have also received online licences, while Casino Cosmopol AB has applied for a state casino gaming licence approved by Lotteriinspektionen.
Lotteriinspektionen issued a batch of new licences between 17 and 21 April, having said earlier this week that it was preparing to issue 20 licences before the end of the year.
The source said the regulator's office would be open for part of next week to process the remaining applications to launch in the re-regulated market next month.
Lotteriinspektionen, which has yet to reject an application for a licence, has so far issued 57 licences.
