Apple Pie Baked in Apple Recipe- Inspired from Pinterest!

For Yoshi’s going away party, I really wanted to make
something cool for dessert and FW gave me the recipe for “Apple Pie Baked in
Apple”. I originally heard of this from Pinterest and it seemed like such a
cool and (relatively) healthy idea!

Here are the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe. This
recipe
serves four but I doubled it
for the party.
  •          5-6
Granny Smith Apples (make sure they can stand on their own)
  •          1
    Teaspoon of Cinnamon
  •          ¼ Cup of
    Sugar
  •         1
    Tablespoon of Brown Sugar
  •          Pre-made
Pie Crust (or make it from scratch if you want)
Pre-Heat oven to 375
degrees F.

I bought 10 granny smith apples and cored four of them. The
other two were used for extra filling but we realized near the end that we had
way too much filling so we technically should’ve cored all 10.

Cut off the top of the apples and discard (or eat them).
Remove the inside of each apple with a melon baller and make sure not to
puncture the peel.

Once cored, it will look like this. It will start to brown
so you can rub them with lemon
juice if you want but we didn’t it for ours.

Take the usable apple balls that were carved out and put
them in a bowl.
If you have extra apples that you are using for the filling,
remove the skin and cut them up into bite size chunks. Add them into the bowl to make additional filling.

Mix sugar and cinnamon in the bowl. You can vary the amounts because it really depends on how
you sweet you like your dessert.

I would recommend using more sugar than normal
because granny smith apples are really tart. I didn’t use enough sugar so I definitely would add more next time to make it sweeter.

Roll out the pie crust and cut them into thin strips. I used the Pillsbury ready-made pie crust and it was really easy to handle.

Fill the apple filling into the hollowed apple cups.

Take the thin strips of pie crust and weave them into a lattice
pattern. Place the weave on top of the apple.

It’ll end up looking like this once the pastry top is on.

Place apples in a pan and add enough water to cover the
bottom of the pan. You don’t need that much water so don’t over-submerge them.

Cover with foil and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until
crust is golden brown and sliced apples are soft.

Looks quite impressive right? You can eat the whole thing
and it’s a pretty healthy dessert! If you like this recipe, follow me on Pinterest (link on sidebar)!
Hope you enjoyed this recipe and happy eating!

I made these also. I found that I needed more sugar than I added. Granny Smith apples are quite tart. Also thought about adding some butter to the mix to make the filling more caramelized. These are tasty and would be wonderful with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!!!
