Pink Elephant Thai – 5th Year Anniversary
Can you believe it? Pink Elephant Thai has been in business in the Vancouver area for 5 years now!! Congrats!!!
Pink Elephant Thai on Alberni St. is celebrating its Five Year Anniversary this summer and they developed a special menu to mark the occasion. This Anniversary menu offers a ‘5 items for $55’ combo which contains your choice of two appys and three entrees. It’s perfect for small groups of three or one hungry couple. 😀
I was lucky enough to be invited to a tasting and when the first dish came, I actually thought they were mozzarella sticks! It turned out to be the Crispy Tofu and they were very delicious. Perfectly crispy on the outside and burning hot and silky on the inside.
Next up were the Spring Rolls. If you like freshly fried spring rolls, you’ll like these. Honestly, you can never go wrong with spring rolls.
I enjoyed the dipping sauces and marinade of the Chicken Satay but the meat was a little tough due to it being white meat.
These Thai Style Pork Cheeks were the bomb diggity. Nobody could get enough of them!! Highly recommended.
This was my ultimate favourite of the bunch of appys. The Thai Shrimp Cakes. GOD THEY WERE GOOD. As Sherman likes to say, the shrimp cakes were very bouncy and had a good bite to it. It’s hard to describe so trust me and order this!!
I’m not a huge fan of really spicy food so this Spicy Beef dish didn’t tickle my fancy.
While I can always appreciate a refreshing Som Yum Papaya Salad, this one was a little too sour and watery. The flavours were very prominent though so if you like heavy spices this might cater to your palate.
All of us agreed the Tom Yum Soup was delicious and an instant stomach opener (does that make sense?!). It’s an Asian saying but whenever I eat or drink anything sour before a meal (like sunomono in Japanese cuisine), it always ‘awakens’ my appetite and I feel like I can eat more. 😛
Yellow Curry. My favourite one of the bunch.
These Mixed Seasonal Vegetables with Oyster Sauce were a HUGE hit with the gang.
I believe the front dish is the Cashew nut Stir Fry and the back dish is the Thai Basil Stir Fry.
This Chili Pepper Fried Rice is one of my favourite entrees of the bunch. It was spicy, aromatic, and they definitely don’t hold back on the spices.
Pad Thai Noodles with crushed peanuts on the side.
I think this is the Pad Kee Mao which is also known as ‘Drunken Noodles’. To me, it had very similar flavours to the rest of the entrees so it wasn’t distinctive against my palate. However, it was again very fragrant and bursting with spices.
The Pink Elephant Thai serves up casual Thai ‘fusion’ fare and has a very lounge-y feeling if you want a place to chill and relax with friends. The spices are strong at this location so definitely don’t think just because it’s fusion that you won’t get good traditional Thai flavours.
