Pot Belly Mini Hot Pot – Winter Weather Comfort Food

As a lover of anything shabu shabu, the only place I knew of that served great consistent shabu shabu food was Gokudo Shabu Shabu (check out my post here) in Richmond. Since then, a couple of new places have popped up but I have yet to find one that is as affordable and delicious as Gokudo.

Pot Belly Mini Hot Pot is a new shabu shabu place located in the same strip mall as Gokudo Shabu Shabu (Continental Plaza in Richmond) and it’s next to TD Canada Trust. They offer many variations of soup base like curry, miso, tomato, pumpkin, cheesy milk, original, sesame chicken…etc. All pots are $13.99 and if you want the pot and grill option (which gives you literally half a pot and half a grill so you can cook your food in two ways), it’s $15.99.

Meta Knight got the Kimchi Hot Pot ($13.99) with chicken slices as well as a Deep Fried Chicken Nugget appetizer ($5.99). The pot came with an abundance of ‘stuff’ already like boy choy, fishballs, pumpkin, corn, tomato, bean curd, tofu, and wood ear mushrooms so it actually was a lot of food.

I got the Cheesy Milk Hot Pot ($13.99) with seafood and it was friggin delicious!!!! I love the milk hot pot at Pearl Castle so this was totally up my alley. The seafood was also very fresh (though it’s obvious that it was previously frozen- not a problem with me).

All in all, if you’re looking for some warm soup goodness during these cold winter months, I would recommend trying Pot Belly Mini Hot Pot because the quality is comparable to a lot of other good shabu shabu restaurants out there.
