A Review of the Hotel Rose in Portland Oregon
I recently went to Oregon with Meta Knight to pick up our puppy and had to stay one night in Portland. We wanted to stay in the downtown area and found Hotel Rose- A Staypineapple Hotel.
Hotel Rose is a funky little hotel located right across from Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The location was pretty sweet as it was close to the food truck pods and is a 30 second walk from the beautiful trail following the Willamette River.
Funky and very community driven decor.
Their lobby is not extravagant by any means but it feels homey and the staff are incredibly nice. They’re one of the friendliest front staff I’ve ever met!
The instant we walked in we noticed 3 things…. 1) the bed sheets are folded differently than all the other hotels 2) there’s a pineapple cushion that says “Sleep With Me” (so cute!) and 3) there was a stuffed husky doll on the bed!
The cushion was so soft and I just loved the cheeky caption. 😀
This stuffed husky actually has his own instagram! His handle is @dashthepineapplepup and you can adopt him for $25 USD I believe and bring him home.
They have a Keurig in each room and some complimentary bottles of water which we were super thankful for. It’s actually quite rare for hotels to provide complimentary water nowadays so it’s great to see some hotels taking that initiative to make their guests more comfortable while traveling.
Fancy pineapple branded cups and Keurig pods.
As a nice gesture, the hotel sent a tray of cheese, fruit and preserves along with some tonic water during tea time! Not all of the preserves were our cup of tea but the cheese and fruit made for a good snack!
Since we only stayed one night, we decided to dine at the hotel restaurant called Bottle + Kitchen. We noticed a lot of people dining there were not patrons of the hotel as they were coming up through the street entrance which was a very good sign! You know it’s good when people purposely dine at a ‘hotel restaurant’.

For the dranks, I got the Minty Mule ($10) which is made up of crater lake vodka, mint, ginger puree, and lime.
As I get older, I am starting to appreciate strong drinks and I can say with confidence that this particular drink is STRONG. The mint reminded me of a mojito but the ginger puree just gave it that little extra kick.
I gotta say, it was so hard to decide what to order because everything on the menu looked fantastic! From Jambalaya to Mushroom Risotto, it had everything I love….at surprisingly affordable prices.
The first dish we had was THE BEST dish of the night and I would gladly come back to this restaurant just to taste this again. It is the Seared Scallops ($14 USD) with sweet potato puree and it came with four gigantic plump scallops. They were perfectly seared, just barely cooked through, and the flavours were spot on. I can’t say anything else about this except that you should try it for yourself.
For mains, Meta Knight got the fish special which was the Halibut I believe with roast potato, broccolini, sweet potato puree, and a small fricassee salad.
I got the Mushroom Risotto ($18 USD) and it comprised of leeks, mushrooms, and goat cheese. The flavours were great, but the rice was just slightly undercooked.
We capped off our meal with some delicious strawberry ice-cream, then headed for bed. You know you’re getting old when the servers ask “So what are your plans for the evening?” (and it’s a Friday night) and all you can say is “I’m going straight to bed”. Hahaha. Oh the good old days when I still had plans on a Friday night. 😀
All in all, I thought Hotel Rose – A Staypineapple hotel was a great funky place to stay at and it ticked off all our boxes of what we wanted in a hotel. Location? Check. Food? Check. Comfort? Check. If you ever do stay at Hotel Rose, make sure to give the seared scallops a try at Bottle + Kitchen!
Disclosure: I was provided a discount at Hotel Rose – A Staypineapple Hotel. All opinions are my own.
