Vancouver Christmas Market Open Now Until Dec 24th, 2017
Vancouver Christmas Market is officially open for 2017! I don’t know about you but the Vancouver Christmas Market is an annual holiday tradition for me. Even if it’s just once a year, I always need to go and enjoy my hot mulled wine (also known as Glühwein), spätzle (German pasta), and bratwurst while browsing elegant decorations in a cheery Christmas setting.
This year, they have added a variety of new features including Canada’s first-ever Walk-In Christmas Tree: a 30ft tall tree covered with 36,000 twinkling lights that guests can enter to experience a spectacular light display and a Flying Stage perched 10ft high above the market. The Flying Stage will host a lively line-up of daily festive entertainment. I got to admit, it was really cool to see the band playing 10ft up in the air. It’s really something quite special.
Now on to the food, visitors will undoubtedly treat themselves to the market’s signature array of mouthwatering delectables including the traditional hot mulled wine (like I mentioned above), Bratwurst by Freybe, Gulasch, Strudels, and Cannolis from the Cannoli King. If you normally don’t get to experience German cuisine like me, I would highly recommend visiting this festival just for that reason alone.
Fresh Pretzels with either mustard, cheese dip, or chocolate dip is always a must and it makes for a great festival snack.
In celebration of Canada’s 150, the Captain and the Chef Spätzle Haus is serving a Canadian Spätzle Poutine!
The Vancouver Christmas Market and Children’s Wish Foundation have partnered for the 2017 season in order to raise funds to grant the most heartfelt wishes of BC children diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. From December 16-24, Children’s Wish will be collecting donations and selling ‘wish wands’ at booths throughout the market. Those who generously make a donation will receive a complimentary season pass to the Vancouver Christmas Market.
