Yui Japanese Bistro – New Menu, New Aburi Items
Yui Japanese Bistro is a hidden aburi restaurant in downtown and they’re serving up some unique items on their new menu that just launched this month. Chef Reg and Ping are behind these super innovative creations.
The Tai Oshi was absolutely delicious and it contained tai, sesame leaf, crispy shiitake, and red pepper thread. To me, it tasted just as good as the traditional salmon oshi that everyone loves, but with different flavours.
They torch the aburi with charcoal to give it more of a smokey flavour and you can actually taste the difference in the sauce.
Their Salmon Oshi was delectable and as good as Miku’s (so there ya go, come here to get the same great taste but at a cheaper price).
One of the items I thought was quite cool and unique is the Yui Tart. This ‘tart’ consists of tuna with a garlic dill sauce, salmon flakes, chef’s special sauce, tempura bites, imitation crab meat, cucumber, flying fish roe, and torched mayo (of course).
The tartar-like sauce component was very unique as I don’t see it often mixed with sushi or Japanese cuisine. It made for a delicious appy!
One of the simpler items on the menu, this Smoke Salmon Delight roll was good, but not great. It had tuna, chopped jalapeno, avocado, smoked salmon, wasabi mayo, mango salsa, and alfalfa sprout.
This Aburi Tuna Nigiri with pickled sweet onion topping on top was off the hook! I highly recommend trying it.
On the other hand, the Tai Nigiri with strawberry salsa on top was a bit weird because the strawberry salsa was very sweet. If it was countered with something more acidic, I think this nigiri would be very good.
Overall, tasting all of these aburi items was a treat and I think Yui Japanese Bistro does aburi very well. I would definitely recommend Yui for those who are looking to treat their honey to a special night, but also don’t want to break the bank going to the traditional Miku or Kishimoto.
