Random Thought: Recipe to Riches- Triple Nut Toffee
Once again, it is ‘Recipe to Riches’ season and the winners’ products are now sold at all President’s Choice locations. Don Harquail of Burnaby, British Columbia took out his competitors in the Candies and Chocolates category with his Triple Nut Toffee.
The Tripe Nut Toffee is made of caramelized almonds, cashews, pine nuts, and sesame seeds, all atop a graham cracker crust. It retails for $5.99 which isn’t too bad for a dessert. The product is fit for consumption when you take it out so there is no baking required.
I have heard endless complements for this crunchy slice of sugary heaven so my expectations were set pretty high. Upon trying it, both Meta Knight and I looked at each other trying to taste something magical in these bars. However, nothing was to be found.
I think it is just personal preference here, but I found the toffee too sweet, and the nuts too soft. An unexpected crunch from the toffee layer would have been nice (kind of like the crispy crunch bar), but instead it was kind of mushy. We even wondered if we bought a stale pack.
Overall, the Triple Nut Toffee was good, but not amazing. I wouldn’t buy it again, but for all sweet tooths out there, I do encourage you to give it a try and support the local Don Harquail of Burnaby!
